The options in plain English
Visa on arrival
IDR 500,000 · 30 days
Citizens of about 97 countries can get one. Extend it once, for another IDR 500,000 and 30 days, by applying at least 7 days before it ends. Indonesia's immigration office lists these figures. Some sites say the online e-VOA gives 60 days, but the official page does not. Plan on 30.
C1 visit visa
About IDR 1.5M · up to 60 days
For tourists who want to stay beyond two months. It starts at 60 days and can be extended twice, up to about 180 days in total. Apply online before you fly.
E33G Remote Worker visa
IDR 7M · 1 year
For people employed by or freelancing for companies outside Indonesia. Expect to show about $60,000 a year in income and roughly $2,000 in savings. Sources disagree on whether it can be extended, so confirm before you count on a second year.
Bali tourist levy
IDR 150,000 · once
A separate charge on all foreign visitors since 14 February 2024. Pay it online or at the airport.
Rules that changed recently
- All Indonesia arrival card. Required for every traveler since 1 September 2025. It is free and filled in online before you land.
- Extensions are partly in person. Since July 2025, you apply online and then visit an immigration office for biometrics.
Common mistakes
- Working on a tourist visa. UK government advice says the visa on arrival does not cover influencer work or creating commercial online content. Get the right visa first.
- Overstaying. It costs IDR 1,000,000 per day. Set a reminder for day 20.
- Ignoring tax. Spending 183 days or more in a 12-month period can make you an Indonesian tax resident. Ask an adviser before you settle in.
- Short passport validity. Your passport needs 6+ months left and you need an onward ticket.
